about

A reflection of my travels around the world in my youth.

lyrics

I’ve traveled all around the world
And seen all kinds of places
Black, white, brown and red and golden amber faces
I’ve seen the poor, but hardly the rich
I’ve seen the cattle and the kids
I’ve seen the mom washing clothes
They all use the same mud water ditch

I feel a sadness fill my eyes
But then they look at me
They give me a smile and a hearty wave
I’m not sure quite what they see

They shake my hand and pat my back
Then compliment my beard
All crammed inside a tiny bus
It all seemed kinda weird

Hear what I say to my friends and the teachers
Hear what I say, what I say hey
In my travels I have found that we’re all the same people
Hear what I say, what I say.

From the crystal clear waters of the Fiji Isles
To the towers of Tokyo
To the pristine streets of Singapore
If you litter they wont let you go

I’ve met the faithful proud to show you
They want to show you just for free
I’ve met the faithless who claim the same
But they want to charge you a tourist fee

I head down under, then through the straits across the Indian Sea
To the island of the elephant and delicious Ceylon tea
Cynicism can creep in, if you let it so
But truth be told, I look within
We’re all the same, that’s what I know

Hear what I say to my friends and the teachers
Hear what I say, what I say hey
I’ve seen all kinds of lands and their oh so beautiful creatures
Hear what I say, what I say

SOLOS

At the piers of Mombassa the children wait for ships to dock
They look for handouts, clothes and shoes, in my ignorance I did mock
Later I come to realize they’re afflicted by our western way
This life they live they did not choose, but now it seems it’s their every day
Humbled and embarrassed I change my point of view
But they don’t care they laugh and smile and ask what I can do
I give out all that I can give and give it all for free
I’ll laugh and cry and joke with them and tell the whole world what I see

Hear what I say to my friends and the teachers
Hear what I say, what I say hey
Beware of CEOs, politicians and false preachers
Hear what I say, what I say

Hear what I say to my friends and the teachers
Hear what I say, what I say hey
Beware of politicians, CEOs and the false preachers
Hear what I say, what I say

Hear what I say to my friends and the teachers
Hear what I say, what I say hey
I’ve seen all kinds of lands and their oh so beautiful creatures
Hear what I say what I say

Hear what I say to my friends and the teachers
Hear what I say, what I say hey
In my travels I have found that we’re all the same people
Hear what I say , what I say, Hey!
